Derek Cornelius
About Me

Cornelius was born on November 25, 1997, in Ajax, Ontario to Derek and Karen Cornelius. He has an older sister named Alyssa Cornelius. Derek is a passionate and dedicated football (soccer) player who began playing at the age of 3. Throughout his childhood Derek played many different sports at school, however, football was the sport he loved the most. Inspired by the great Ronaldinho, he knew from a young age that he wanted to play football.

Cornelius started playing competitive football at the age of 5, where he played on an under 7 team called Ajax FC. Then, at age 9 he made the change to North York Spartacus, where he was coached by Asif and managed by his father Derek. When he moved to Spartacus,
 he remained
playing at a higher age level. He played 4 seasons with Spartacus until he moved to Unionville-Milliken Soccer Club, where he started playing in the men's league. During his time at Unionville, he had the honour to represent his country in an international tournament for the under 17 Canadian National Team in Italy. It was at this time where Derek's Unionville coach, Alexander Shikov, urged him to play in Europe to help continue his development as a youth player. Following a successful tryout for the VfB Lübeck U19 team, Derek made the move to Germany at the age of 16 years old. However, due to FIFA regulations, he was not able to play in official matches until he turned 18 years of age.

After becoming eligible to play in official matches Derek played for the VfB Lübeck U19 team while training with the first team. At the end of the 2015/2016 season, he was transferred to VfR Neumuenster. It was here where he transitioned to centreback from previously playing in attacking roles. During the 2017 January transfer window, Derek signed his first professional contract with FK Javor Matis Ivanjica, where he is currently playing.
